The Monday Assembly is an important gathering of all members of the school including students, teachers and Headmaster. Indeed, the Assembly in Lucton is conducted for different purposes, such as communicating information and suggestion, award announcement, reinforcing the school values, and shaping the characters. The Assembly is full of formal sense of ceremony, in which all the Luctonians can feel the sense of community and instill the Lucton spirit. With the right inspiration, students will start a fresh week full of energy.
In addition to the speeches given by the Founding Head, Ms. Ezdani, and the Deputy Head - Academic, Ms. Shi, who share information about recent events and activities, guidance for students on their studies and life, and daily experiences, students are also encouraged to come up on the stage to give performances, read poems or essays, and share their learning experiences, etc.
With a multicultural atmosphere, Luctonians will become knowledgeable, confident, and leadership-oriented leaders of the future.
This week's Assembly was held on the occasion of Diwali, an Indian festival. In order for the whole school to learn more about Diwali, Year 9 students made an introduction of Diwali. They introduced the time, origins, customs, and celebrations of the festival, including traditional Diwali food, cleaning activities, Indian Henna body painting, and rangoli, etc.
The students were well prepared before this Weekly Assembly. After reading two books about Diwali in Ms. Illingworth's English Reading classes using the online MyOn Library, they chose which festive tradition they would like to present and wrote their own scripts. Finally, they put each student's speech together and practised speaking.
English Reading is a compulsory subject at Lucton School Chongqing, designed to help students improve their English language skills more efficiently. By reading English books of interest, students are able to immerse in their studies. As a result, they can experience culture and language in a flexible and interesting way of learning English.
Besides, Public Speaking is a skills-based programme for every student at Lucton School Chongqing. Public speaking is an indispensable skill in learning and life. By receiving training and practice in public speaking, students will be able to open up, gain confidence, organise their thoughts and express themselves clearly. This will assist them in their future development and progress at university and in the workplace.
