At the beginning of the academic year, Lucton students might inevitably feel overwhelmed when faced with a new and unfamiliar environment as they moved from one home to another "home". In order to warm up the connections between the students, enhance their sense of belonging, and help them adapt to the new campus life, a three-day field trip activity was carried out by Ms. Shi, Bursar of Lucton Chongqing, Mr. Xu, College Counselor, and the Boarding staff. All students left for the mountains to learn the knowledge and skills of surviving in the wild, exercise teamwork ability and patience, and gain strong inner power and self-confidence. The best classes and learning are always those you experience.
On the first day, students left the school and went to the Xiniu Village campsite in Wulong. Here, students will transformed into wild adventurers. This is their first class as Lucton students, taking the field as a classroom, regarding nature as their teachers, and taking breakthroughs as their objectives.
Xiniu Village above the cave is called "the most beautiful ancient village", surrounded by mountains, bamboos and over 40 stilted buildings with more than 100 years of history. The Tujia stilted wooden buildings are built on the mountains, with gurgling water. No need for any filters, or wait for any weather, everything is beautiful here at any time.
Towards the Mountain
After arriving at the camp, students took a short rest, organise their equipments and learn safety knowledge under the guidance of the coach. After everything was set, today's training started, tracing through the cave. The proven karst cave in Xiniu Village is about 130 kilometers long, which is the longest karst cave group in Asia.
Hiking ≠ walking. Walking is a whole-hearted action. The mountain road is steep and narrow, and the summit is a long way to go. The students with strong physical strength held the others with weaker strength, and they encouraged each other, and went hand in hand. The students were sweating and almost exhausted, but none of them chose to give up. With the effort as a whole, all teachers and students finally reached the termination step by step.
In the evening, students also conducted professional training on the use of field survival equipments, such as ropes, safetyt belts, and locks etc. At the same time, they also learned the knowledge of surviving in the wild, such as how to build and use a stretcher outdoors, how to make the existing wood burn longer...
Deep into the Cave
On the second day, the task was to spend most of the day exploring the cave in depth. Accompanied by teachers and coaches, the students learnt new knowledge and challenge themselves. During the process, the coaches will explain the evolution of underground caves, living creatures, and their importance to nature. Walking in the classroom makes unfamiliar knowledge visible and tangible, and you can feel the charm of nature.
After 5 hours of crossing, everyone successfully completed today's challenge. Although everyone was covered with mud all the way, and they fell and stood up again, and even used their hands and feet together, but everyone supported each other... This moment was about the real Luctonian.
Challenge Above the Water
After exploring the cave, the students came to one of their most exciting projects in this field trip, SUP, stand up paddle. Stand, sit, bend over, kneel, and lie down! Playing various kinds of tricks as you like it. After playing for a while, the tiredness of the students got washed away.
Hand in Hand
The evening is everyone's favourite bonfire party. With the passionate singing of the teachers and the enthusiastic dancing of the students, there were lively and funny performances on the stage, and all of them gained friendship and joy in laughter.
Here Comes the “Spiderman”
The third day was also the most exciting day with 80m abseiling! At the beginning, some students were afraid to go because they were afraid of heights, but with the encouragement of teachers and classmates, they finally made bold attempts to conquer their fears. In the end, all of them were so brave.
When they left, they were afraid of the unknown and challenges; when they returned, they were full of joy and courage. We truly believe that the Lucton students who have achieved a lot will also be individuals who are diligent, helpful, brave, never-give-up, with optimistic attitudes, passion for learning, and positive spirit when encountering difficulties in the future and create a world of their own!
