Congratulations to the students who won awards in the Preliminary Round!
First Prize: Arabella Y
Second Prize: Satya Reet S
Third Prize: Tommy R
Excellence Award: Helen H

As the First Prize winner of Preliminary Round, Arabella Y was invited to Macau, China on behalf of Lucton School Chongqing to participate in the National Finals, which was the Hippo Assessment National Finals and All-Star Carnival. In the fierce competition, she demonstrated excellent English and solid language skills, and eventually won the Gold Award and won the Runner-up Award in the Spelling Bee.

The following is the view of Arabella Y:
“Participating in an English competition in Macao is an enriching and immersive experience. The city's cosmopolitan atmosphere provides the perfect backdrop for showcasing language proficiency and cultural understanding. Competitors from diverse backgrounds come together, united by their passion for English, creating a vibrant and dynamic environment.
The competition itself may include various categories, such as spelling bees, creative speech, written assessment, and a quiz bowl, each demanding different skills and talents. Regardless of the category, we are challenged to express eloquently and persuasively in English.
As the competition draws to a close, we came together to celebrate the achievements and friendships forged during our time in Macao. Whether standing on the winner's podium or applauding from the audience, everyone shares in the collective joy of a memorable and rewarding experience.Leaving the competition, I carried with me not only trophy and certificates but also cherished memories and lasting friendships.”

Hippo English Olympiad is organized by the Global Hippo Association, a non-profit organization founded in 2012. With the mission "English without borders", the Hippo English Olympiad is based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and is divided into 12 levels of difficulty for young people aged 6 to 19 from non-native speaking countries and regions. In the past 11 years, more than 60 countries and regions around the world have organized students to participate, and more than 80,000 students worldwide participated in 2023, making it the world's most influential English (non-native) challenge and assessment for youth.

The Hippo English Assessment aims to inspire young people to improve their English skills and build bridges of communication. The hippo, a symbol of strength, though gentle, shows resilience and tenacity in the face of challenges, in line with their original mission: to inspire young people to realise their potential in learning English! The questions are designed based on the CEFR standard and designed by Gatehouse Awards recognised by Ofqual, the UK Curriculum Authority, based on vivid scenarios covering cross-cultural general knowledge, to cultivate students' ability to use English in a holistic manner and to reflect their English literacy.

At Lucton School Chongqing we encourage all students to challenge themselves by participating in national and international academic competitions and providing opportunities for them to showcase their talents, while praising them for their excellence. We are very proud of our students fantastic performance in the International English Olympiad, which has over 70,000 of the best English students participating from more than 50 countries around the world. We look forward to sharing and celebrating their future achievements!
