On the morning of 30th April 2024, the Official Launch of Lucton International School Chongqing was successfully held in Tieshanping, Jiangbei District. Wang Yu, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC Chongqing Committee, Anthony Preston, British Consul-General in Chongqing, Eva Yu, Canadian Consul-General in Chongqing, Wang Jiguang, Director-General of the Committee for Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and Overseas Chinese and Foreign Affairs of the CPPCC Chongqing Municipal Committee, Liu Hanhua, Chairman of the CPPCC Jiangbei District Committee, Qiao Jian, Level-2 Inspector of the Chongqing Municipal Education Commission, and Wu Yali, Vice District Mayor of the Chongqing Jiangbei District People’s Government, Hu Kaiqiang, Director-General of SCO TEMP and Deputy Director-General of the Committee for Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and Overseas Chinese and Foreign Affairs of the CPPCC Chongqing Municipal Committee, Liu Qi, Bureau Rank Official of the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development, Deng Rui, Senior Adviser to SCO TEMP, President of SCO Countries Education Work Alliance, and Former Level-1 Inspector of the Chongqing Municipal Education Commission and other municipal and district leaders attended the Official Launch.
Before the ceremony, the leaders and their entourage visited Lucton International School Chongqing to learn more about the school's construction and preparations for opening. The school covers an area of 32 acres, with a construction area of about 10,000 square metres for the teaching building and supporting facilities, equipped with 23 classrooms, and function rooms such as library and laboratories. The combination of Lucton's elite educational resources and the ideal environment of Chongqing Tieshanping National Forest Park reflects the unique charm of the British-style campus.
At the Official Launch, Steven Yang, Chairman of Governors of Lucton International School Chongqing, introduced the school. He expressed his deep sense of responsibility as a new member of international schools in Chongqing. With the guidance and support of the municipal and district governments, the school will establish deep roots in Chongqing and build a high-quality international school.
Sarah Ezdani, Founding Head of Lucton International School Chongqing, stated that the school will provide students with pastoral care and opportunities to develop a strong character and encourage them to succeed. Afterwards, representatives from a number of renowned universities including Imperial College London, University of California Riverside, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, and Glion Institute of Higher Education congratulated the school's founding via video.
Anthony Preston, British Consul-General in Chongqing, delivered a speech that Lucton has a long history and excellent reputation, and is committed to developing outstanding young people with the necessary skills, resilience and initiative. In the future, they will continue to promote the co-operation between the UK and Chongqing in the field of education and build a platform for cultural exchange between China and the UK.
Wu Yali, Vice District Mayor of Jiangbei District, stated that Jiangbei District attaches great importance to education openness and cooperation, and regularly carries out education cooperation and exchanges, and constantly expands the platform for opening up in education. The district education commission will refine guidance, strengthen supervision, optimise services, promote standardisation of school management, professionalisation of teacher development and personalisation of student development, and promote the healthy and orderly development of schools.
Li Sichuan, Director of the Jiangbei District Education Commission, and Steven Yang, Chairman of Governors of Lucton International School Chongqing, jointly unveiled the school's plaque, which was witnessed by the participating leaders. Finally, the leaders in attendance watered Lucton's growth tree together.
