The SDG-themed camp jointly delivered by CIFAL Shanghai and Lucton SchoolChongqing was successfully concluded on July 15, 2022.
About SDG
SDG is short for Sustainable Development Goals. In September 2015, 193 countriesreached an agreement with the United Nations to set 17 global sustainable developmentgoals. These goals replaced the Millennium Development Goals at the end of 2015and will last until 2030. SDG is one of the most important projects of United Nations.
Ms. Zhao, the tutor of the summer camp, has rich experience. She graduated fromBeijing University of Chemical Technology with a bachelor's degree in computer science.Later on, she studied at the University of Sheffield and obtained a master's degreein education. In addition, she has a wide range of hobbies in life, including cooking,painting, handicraft, baking etc. During the 5-day camp, she has led the team totry lots of attempts, and the students experienced the surprise of creation in explorationand conceptual design; Logical thinking has been exercised in gathering informationand in summarising and sorting; In hands-on practice and teamwork, students facedchallenges and setbacks together.
In accordance with the Sustainable Development Goal 3, Good Health and Well-being,the summer camp integrates physics, biology, chemistry, geography and the conceptsof other subjects, and technology-based tools such as electronics and programming,engineering design, 3D printing, data analysis, and visualisation with theoriesand practices combined. It allows students to stimulate interests in subject knowledgeand the motivation to explore, innovate practical skills and communication skillsin the context of real interdisciplinary problems, raise awareness of self and theworld and the outlook and sense of responsibility for planet sharing, and cultivatecreative world citizens with international perspectives.

• Students are constantly testing to make obstacle prevention intelligent alarmdevices for the visually impaired and ensure the feasibility of the devices.
• Learn the bone structure and movement mechanism of fingers, design the structurediagramme of manipulator, and try to control fingers by controlling motors.
• Healthy drinking water is priceless. Learn to understand the water cycle andmake water purification devices; Make intelligent devices for water quality detection,better understand the sustainable development goals, and enhance the sense of missionto protect the earth.
• The team brainstorm to confirm the issue, set group project, determine thematerials list, start building works, programme, and work together.
• Students show their team's works confidently on the stage, explain the processand the thinking involved in the process and put forward their own solutions.
• Combined with the SDG theme, students have learnt how to improve their Englishexpression, public speaking and global perspectives in the Lucton Lessons everyday.
During the camp, students also experienced British elite sports and challengedtheir comfort zone in the equestrian centre, from stroking the horse's back to gallopingon it.
In the closing ceremony, Mr. Yugang Wu, director from CIFAL Shanghai, sent hiscongratulations and expectations remotely. He expressed his great recognition forstudents’ innovation and cognitive abilities, and hoped to learn and use them intheir future study. Then, Ms. Zhao summarised and commented on the works of eachgroup, and put forward suggestions for improvement from the advantages and disadvantages.
Ms. Jing Shi, Bursar of Lucton School Chongqing, also delivered a closing speech.She spoke highly of the students' innovative spirit and sense of social responsibility,and hoped that they could break through themselves, discover their potential inthe future, and make persistent efforts. Ms. Shi has over 10 years of experienceworking in international department in key middle schools teaching A-Level courses,and has great teaching results with most of her students achieving the highest score.Finally, Ms. Ann Pan, Executive Governor of Lucton School Chongqing, awarded theSDG camp certificates.
