Academic | Computer Science at Lucton School Chongqing2023-01-20





Ms. Eu is the Computer Science teacher at Lucton School Chongqing and she teaches IGCSE Computer Science to students in Year 10 and 11 as well as Information Communication Technology (ICT) to Year 9 students. She is also the data assessment coordinator who collates, analyses and manages all school assessment data and develops an online repository for students to manage and track their results.



Year 9 students in Ms. Eu classes have been working on Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint projects recently. In Excel lessons, the students did a lot of projects including how to create bar chart, pie chart, pictogram, mini charts, check boxes, drop-down list and a dashboard. In PowerPoint lessons, students learned how to create interactive content with trigger animations.
Being able to master the skills of these two programs would be very beneficial for both university and work life later. It prepares them with the essential skills for presentation and data manipulation in the future.



Both Year 10 and Year 11 students are taking IGCSE Computer Science. This course will help students to develop their problem-solving skills, as well as computational thinking. These are the key skills that will be compliant with other subjects like Maths and Physics.
Computing skill is an essential part of the modern digital world. It encompasses not only the mastery of technical techniques, but also how to apply the skills purposefully, safely and responsibly in learning, employment and everyday life.
Students continue to study Computer Science at university or other science related disciplines. The skills learned allow students to approach problem solving with a Computational Thinking slant which can be applied to many situations both within and beyond an academic context.



• A Year 9 student created an animated PowerPoint slide to introduce the different houses in Lucton School Chongqing and one of the members from each house.



• Excel work from a Year 9 student which involves the creation of 3 checkboxes to view the sales data in accordance to its products and profit.



• A Python code from Year 10 student regarding Linear search algorithm.



• Code attempted by a Year 11 student when she did the online programming practice.
