2023 Lucton Immersive English Winter Camp Review2023-01-06


At the beginning of 2023, Lucton Immersive English Winter Camp officially opened, taking students "into a century-old school at home". During the five-day camp, immersive English environment provided natural conditions for students to learn for practice and stimulated their inner drive. In addition to gaining new knowledge and skills in the English language and public speaking, students also developed comprehensive skills including research and learning, teamwork and independent thinking. Besides, deep friendship was also built among teachers and students.



The camp kept holistic education as the core, offered learning experience with the integration of Chinese and Western cultures, and created an international learning environment. The academic team of Lucton School Chongqing led students on an exciting journey of cultural exploration and spent a wonderful winter camp time together. In the immersive English learning environment, study and play were integrated, and habit development and independence were complemented. Students not only experienced a curriculum with rich contents and diverse courses, but also perceived the vitality brought to body and mind by speech, reading, art, sports and Chinese and Western culture.



• Students learned English skills and enhanced interests in English through an interesting way of teaching.



• The teacher was dressed in Hanfu, traditional Chinese costume, and taught about Chinese culture. Students developed their cultural confidence subtly.



• Students were practicing and rehearsing English script writing, and improved public speaking skills and body language on stage.



• Students used myON for online English reading, which helped to develop a sense of language, promote vocabulary accumulation and improve writing skills.



• An individual could find himself in art creation and discover a different self. Students applied what they have learned and used their own understanding to create their own work.



• Ms. Sarah Ezdani, Academic Head of Lucton School Chongqing, taught English colloquialisms face-to-face with experiential learning activities. Students had great fun learning.



The College Counselor in Lucton School Chongqing and distinguished graduate from Imperial College London showed students the world′s top universities and guided them to know about themselves, plan ahead, discover their interests and strengths, and helped with their individualised growth and future education.



During the camp, students also experienced British elite sports and learned about British equestrian culture. They challenged their comfort zone as horse riders and developed their determination and courage. There were also fun games during the camp, such as yoga, frisbee and table tennis. Students leaned how to cooperate and help each other through sports.



In the closing ceremony, parents and teachers came to cheer on the students. Under the theme of "East Meets West (Culture Integration)" Speech Contest, students delivered speeches in Chinese and English respectively, bringing lively speeches to the audience. Although they are teenagers, they shared topics such as the impact of climate change, the benefits of adventure, the chain effects of healthy food and all received ovations. Ms. Sarah Ezdani, Academic Head of Lucton School Chongqing remarked that, "Everyone prepared carefully and positively. Their wonderful presentations made everyone deeply appreciate the charm of speech and culture." With a round of applause, the Lucton Immersive English Winter Camp came to a successful end.





The end of the camp is not the end of learning. During the following week after the closing ceremony, students had a myON online English reading competition. Lucton School Chongqing cooperates with Renaissance Education Group to run the myON online English reading programme, which helps to improve students’ English language skills and build a solid language foundation for future education around the world.
