In March, the HE Seminar under the event, St David's Day - “Discover Wales from Lucton” was successfully held at Lucton School Chongqing. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming as parents and students communicated with alumni face-to-face to explore the appeal of education.
Three outstanding Welsh alumni, Mr. Tim Standbrook, Deputy Consul General at the British Consulate General Chongqing, Mr. Barry Bobin-Martin, Head of the Chevening Programme in China at the British Embassy Beijing and Ms. Jenna Illingworth, a teacher at Lucton School Chongqing, shared their experience and cultural stories.
As opening remarks, Mr. Tim Standbrook shared the history and anecdotes of Wales, which made audience laugh constantly. Meanwhile, he praised the concept of holistic education followed by Lucton School Chongqing, where an international curriculum rooted from the UK will bring a different experience to students in Chongqing.
Mr. Barry Bobin-Martin, Head of the Chevening Programme in China at the British Embassy Beijing, introduced the advantages of studying in Wales, with its unique natural scenery, high quality education and a wide range of outdoor activities attracting Chinese students.
Ms. Jenna Illingworth, a Welsh teacher at Lucton School Chongqing, also shared her experience of studying at Cardiff University and the unique regional cultural traditions.
The Chevening Scholarship, established in 1983, is a scholarship programme offered by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office for international students. Chevening Scholarship is the most representative scholarship programme of the British government with a high reputation in 160 countries around the world. This scholarship provides full funding to study at any UK university for any eligible master's degree programme. Scholarship receivers can study for a one-year master's degree in the UK.
Mr. Steven Yang, Chairman of Governors of Lucton School Chongqing, then shared his story with the UK. His journey started from studying at Lucton School UK as the first overseas student from China, to the official opening of Lucton School Shanghai, which is the first overseas campus of Lucton School UK, and Lucton School Chongqing. It is the result of the joint efforts of all Luctonians. Lucton School Chongqing is committed to bring students in Chongqing the world’s leading teaching experience with the integrated essence of Eastern and western education, and aims to cultivate outstanding future leaders with Chinese heart and global perspectives.
Representatives from nearly 10 Welsh universities introduced characteristics and entry requirements of the universities and answered questions of audience.
Finally, Mr. Tom Xu, College Counselor of Lucton School Chongqing mentioned that there are many great universities with top professions in Wales, and at Lucton School Chongqing we are committed to provide students and parents with suggestions for higher education around the world. Lucton School Chongqing is also dedicated to help students deepen their self-understanding and introduce universities that suit their interests, personalities and abilities by providing one-to-one guidance to each student, leading students to achieve their full potential and personal goals.
There were also interactive games and friendly football matches. One of the matches is between the Lucton adult team and the British Consulate team, while the other one is between Lucton student team and youth football team from Chongqing Rangers Sports Club.
