Lucton School Chongqing inherits the essence of the 315-year holistic education of Lucton School UK and is committed to exploring the unique talents and potential of each individual. A holistic education focuses not only on the knowledge and skills, but also on the overall development and personal development of the student, cultivating a “whole person” with holistic knowledge, a complete personality, correct values and a positive outlook on life.
During the Holistic Week, Lucton School Chongqing organised a vegetable harvesting activity, an End-of-Term House Competition, a special lunch for House of Term and a Time Capsule project, etc. Students were able to explore nature, enhance their teamwork skills and look to the future. Let's take a look back at this fulfilling and meaningful week!
With the concept of bringing education back to nature, Lucton School Chongqing is constantly expanding its space for practice chances. In the Lucton Farm, rows of corn matured, and the fragrance of the corn is fresh.
Students were led to the “Happy Farm”, where they became happy little farmers and enjoyed the fulfillment of harvest. They bent their backs, kept their heads down and picked in an organised manner. Soon, their baskets were full.
Through searching, discovering, picking, sharing and tasting, students felt the magic and delight of nature. In the harvesting activity, students experienced the joy of labouring, and while experiencing the happiness of a great harvest, they also felt the hard work of the farmers and that food is not easily obtained and should be cherished.
The harvesting activity allowed students to walk into nature from the classroom and into varied working practices from classes, so that they could learn and grow through experience.
End-of-Term House Competition
Four Houses, which are Lion House, Fox House, Star House and Knight House, competed with each other for overall championship. The competition was held in 5 rounds: Sports, Chinese, Science, Art and Quiz. All students in each House participated in and each House was awarded points based on their completion or correctness, with the House with the most points accumulating winning.
Students worked together with commitment in the intense sports competition. Firstly, in the rope skipping relay, students were so energetic and determined to be the winner, that even if they stopped occasionally, they did not give up and immediately resumed. In the second shuttle race, the students were like wild horses and flying arrows, unleashing their energy on the track. At the moment of the relay, the students kept their eyes on the baton, fearing a mistake. The final game of Tic Tac Toe was a competition of both speed and intelligence, with members of Houses not only running in relay, but also placing three of their marks in a row.
In the poetry and charade competitions of the Chinese competition, students pressed the answer machines to answer the questions, showing the profound traditional cultural heritage of Lucton School Chongqing students. Through this Chinese competition, students were able to experience the charm of Chinese culture.
The first part of the science competition was a fun chemistry experiment demonstrated by Mr. Rountree to stimulate students' interest in science activities. In the second part, students had to throw a ping pong ball into a glass cylinder from 10cm above it after closing one eye. Students needed to place the ball right above the cylinder in order to put it in accurately, which tested their thinking skills. The final event was a domino competition, where members of each House worked together to place the dominoes to get points. The placement of the dominoes tested not only the students' physical strength, patience and determination, but also their intelligence, imagination, creativity and teamwork skills.
The art competition was based on a mini-game called “Draw and Guess”. The students took turns to express the words they heard with drawing simple and clear pictures. The event was full of fun as students laughed at the abstract or relevant pictures. In this process, the friendship and bonding among the students was enhanced.
In the quiz session, students from each House sat around and had group discussions. Apart from general knowledge, the quiz topics also involved campus culture, allowing students to answer questions and experience campus culture in an interesting atmosphere.
Congratulations to Lion House who won the overall championship of the End-of-Term House Competition!
Lunch Treat to the House of Term
Fox House won the House of Term award with the highest number of house points, and Ms. Ezdani, Founding Head of Lucton School Chongqing, prepared a special reward for them: a lunch in the Garden Restaurant. This was not only a token of recognition for the hard work and dedication of each member of the Fox House, but also for their team spirit.
During the lunch, Ms. Ezdani communicated with students in a relaxing atmosphere. Students talked about what they had learned this term, then Ms. Ezdani encouraged them to keep up the good work, have fun, develop holistically and strive towards their goals. In the meantime, they got to know each other better. Students not only experienced the rewards for their past efforts, but also got a taste of expectations and hopes for the future.
When looking back, students feel a lot of emotion about their past. When looking forward, they must have great expectations for their future. Therefore, at the end of the academic year, Lucton School Chongqing organised a Time Capsule project to inspire students to strive to achieve their goals. During the event, each student wrote a letter to their future self in ten years' time and placed it in a time capsule. The time capsule was sealed under the tree in the presence of all teachers and students.
Lucton School Chongqing's goal is to develop the ambition, motivation and achievement of students through a holistic education. We are committed to providing all students with the experience of leadership and service, offering them more team-based, thematic and international learning opportunities, and helping them to acquire the skills for global survival and development. Students will be equipped with multicultural understanding, the courage to explore the unknown and the ability to contribute responsibly to society.
