Lucton Students' Volunteer Teaching Trip to Xishuangbanna2024-01-04

Students from Lucton School Chongqing travelled to Xishuangbanna to engage in volunteer teaching activities, while enjoying the beautiful scenery, travelling through the rainforest, and going deep into the villages. Lucton School Chongqing joined hands with volunteer organisations to carry out the volunteer teaching programme, to teach in the local schools, and to bring different knowledge and skills to the local children.

Volunteer Teaching
In Mansha Community, Gadong Street, Jinghong City, Lucton volunteers met 20 lovely children with different levels of education. In order to better meet their learning needs, we chose a one-to-one teaching mode. The students taught the children individually, covering a wide range of subjects such as English and Mathematics, and carefully tutored them in their homework. The goal of the students is not only to teach the children, but also to light up the children's hope for learning, so that they can grow up in a warm educational atmosphere.

The students also gathered with the children to prepare and perform a series of performances including singing, dancing and reciting. At the end of the performance, they sang the song "Invisible Wings" together. The students hoped that through this activity, they could give the children the wings of their dreams and let them fly freely to meet a bright future. After the performance, the students also prepared gifts for the children. These small gifts carry the blessings of the students, and they hope that the children will study well in the future.

Exploration of Nature
The Lucton students' trip to Xishuangbanna was not only a teaching activity, but also a wonderful journey. During their visit to the Wild Elephant Valley, they enjoyed the colourful world of plants and animals, and were lucky enough to meet wild Asian elephants. In addition, the students also participated in a unique elephant class to learn more about the elephants.

The students visited the Tropical Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. From various trees to exotic flowers and fruits, such as the Saraca dives Pierre, mimosa, and the Solandra maxima, this green garden allowed students to appreciate the unique characteristics of various types of plants. The students also visited the Manting Imperial Garden, which is known as the garden of the Dai King. The visit was not only a cognitive journey of plants, but also a profound experience of Dai traditional culture.

Experiencing Culture
During the teaching trip, Lucton students also went into the villages of the ethnic minorities. They visited the Manzhang Village. In Dai language, "man" means village and "zhang" means elephant, and Manzhang Village means the village where elephants pass by. In Manzhang Village, students learnt about the customs of the Dai people and their food style, and experienced flower paper making and pottery making, and learnt the elephant-foot drum dance.

Summarising and Sharing
During this teaching activity in Xishuangbanna, the students not only brought knowledge and care to the local children, but also gained experience in the process, and the speech in the evening became a platform for them to share their experiences.

Lucton School Chongqing calls on all teachers and students to practice more public welfare actions. The nine Lucton Values of Responsibility, Respect, Compassion, Harmony, Integrity, Courage, Humility, Excellence and Initiative are not only the symbol of the campus culture, but also a powerful force to stimulate students' sense of dedication and social responsibility. By actively participating in various public welfare activities, Lucton students can achieve character building and find their directions of growth.
