About CAT4
CAT4, Cognitive Abilities Test, is an online cognitive ability test developed by the GL Education for students aged 6 to 17 years. Different from conventional tests, the CAT does not assess students through the knowledge system of specific subjects, but directly tests the four basic abilities of students: verbal reasoning ability, non-verbal reasoning ability, mathematical reasoning ability and spatial imagination ability.
So far, the CAT4 test has provided assessment service to thousands of students in more than 100 countries. Through the test performance, students can understand their strengths and weaknesses, adjust their future learning direction, and schools can also use this test to assess students' abilities.

Test Information
Form: Online computer-based test
Time: Approx. 2 hours (without breaks)
Grading: Level A-G, 7 levels in total
Please contact our adimissions officers for more CAT4 information, see below.
Test Module
The CAT4 test is divided into four modules: verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, non-verbal reasoning and spatial reasoning.
The CAT4 test is designed to test a student's cognitive and reasoning skills by limiting reading and numeracy. The reduction of reading and numeracy in the test is to ensure that international students can also complete well and reflect the accurate level of cognitive reasoning.
Question Type
Verbal Reasoning
Verbal Classification and Verbal Analogies. Verbal Classification questions will give several words for students to classify according to their meanings, and examine students' logical analysis ability and induction ability, such as synonyms, antonyms, associated words, etc. The Verbal Analogies questions are to test students' reading ability and vocabulary ability through the logical sequence and understanding of words.
Quantitative Reasoning
Number Analogies and Number Series: to test students' ability to solve data problems and through the question types such as sequence of numbers and finding patterns, the students' mathematical logic thinking and operation ability are examined.
Non-verbal Reasoning
Figure Classification and Figure Matrices: to examine students' graphic reasoning level and the graphic classification question type requires students to find common points or differences in the graphics; the graphic matrix question type requires students to find relationships in the figure matrix.
Spatial Reasoning
Figure Analysis and Figure Recognition: generally through three-dimensional origami, finding graphics and other questions to test students' spatial perception ability and spatial imagination ability.
About the Score
After the CAT4 test, a Raw Score, which is determined by the number of questions correctly answered will be provided. The result is compared with the performance of students of the same age, and the following three important scores are calculated by mathematical methods.
Please contact us for more information on CAT4 scores.
Standard Age Score
SAS is based on the student’s raw score which has been adjusted for age and placed on a scale that makes a comparison with a nationally representative sample of students of the same age across the cohort. The average score is 100.
National Percentile Rank
NPR relates to the SAS and indicates the percentage of students obtaining any particular score. NPR of 90 means that the student’s score is within the highest 10% of the national sample. Meanwhile, CAT4 result is one of the application requirements for Lucton Scholarships.
Stanine
ST relates to above two scores and places the student’s score on a scale of 1 (low) to 9 (high), similar to IELTS scores but in indicating the student’s cognitive abilities.
