Recently, Ms. Ann Pan, Executive Governor, Ms. Elaine Shi, Bursar, Ms. Xixi Peng, Head of School Office, and Mr. Bic Zhou, Housemaster, of Lucton School Chongqing visited our sister school, Lucton School Shanghai. They met with the academic team, the holistic education team, the boarding team and Mr. Clem Parrish, the Head of Lucton School Shanghai, to discuss the academic management and school operation in depth.
Lucton School Shanghai is the first overseas campus of Lucton UK in China. Lucton School Shanghai officially opened in September 2018, witnessed by Mr. John Edwards, the then Consul General of British Consulate-General Shanghai. The school inherits three centuries’ education essence of Lucton UK and continues the teaching characteristics, assessment system, the concepts of small-class teaching and holistic education. The school has excellent facilities and a highly experienced academic team. At Lucton School, students are nurtured to understand Chinese tradition and develop international perspectives.
In the morning, Chongqing team joined the Assembly. The Monday Assembly is an important gathering of all members of the school including students, teachers and Head. Indeed, the Assembly in Lucton is conducted for different purposes, such as communicating information and suggestion, award announcement, reinforcing the school values, and shaping the characters. The Assembly is full of formal sense of ceremony, in which all the Luctonians can feel the sense of community and instill the Lucton spirit. With the right inspiration, students will start a fresh week full of energy.
Then the Chongqing team attended the Design and Technology class and Drama Class. They talked with the teachers about several topics like how to organise the lessons, how to motivate and engage students, and how to encourage students to participate in classroom conversations and group work. Outstanding academic performance is the foundation of Lucton School, committed to providing students with academic programmes, leading pedagogies and enabling environments that focus on the future. Not only academic excellence but also lifelong learning is our ultimate pursuit.
Afterwards, Chongqing team met with the staff of Holistic Education team, Pastoral care and Boarding team, and CCA team. As a boarding school, both Lucton School Shanghai and Lucton School Chongqing offer a wide range of extracurricular activities and competitions for students to to pursue their hobbies, improve academic skills and try new things. In line with the philosophy of holistic education, Lucton has always been committed to academic excellence as well as the development of all-round skills. The Chongqing team and Shanghai staff discussed the development of activities, safety and security, competition training and background enhancement, and shared the successful experiences and academic resources currently practised by the two schools.
The boarding school combines excellence in schooling with a positive family atmosphere to create an educational environment that promotes the development of the students. Lucton has always been committed to true boarding education, which is practised by every staff in the boarding team. In the development of Lucton, the boarding team has been accompanying students and witnessing their growth at every step, including in academics, daily life, health and other aspects, helping students form independent personalities, great characters and excellent abilities. Up to now, the boarding team is still expanding in boarding education with a more professional, comprehensive and detailed way.
As members of the Lucton family, Lucton School Chongqing and Lucton School Shanghai have maintained good interaction and communication in various activities. In April 2023, Lucton School Chongqing will host the ASDAN Business Simulation, where students from Lucton School Shanghai will come to participate together. The theme of the simulation will be based on SDG: United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, connecting to the real business world and solving real social problems. ASDAN Business Simulation is a strategic business simulation game based on IT system. It creates a real marketing environment, including the operation decisions, roadshow, business battle and auction and deal.
Finally, the Chongqing team met with Mr. Clem Parrish, the Head of Lucton School Shanghai and Executive Head of Lucton School Chongqing. They reported on their experiences and thoughts from this visit and put forward a new outlook on the development and improvement of Lucton School Chongqing. At Lucton, we provide holistic and global education. Luctonians from the UK, Shanghai, Chongqing and other places will communicate, compete and discuss with each other to encourage one another's development. Luctonians will bear in mind the values of Lucton, develop international perspectives and become global citizens.
