Early Career Framework Programme of Lucton2024-03-22

Lucton School Chongqing has a professional academic team, which consists of experienced teachers who are responsible for teaching and Early Career Teachers (ECT) who are responsible for providing personalised support to students. In order to enhance the professionalism of our ECTs, we have introduced the Early Career Framework (ECF), which is designed to help teachers become excellent bilingual educators through a systematic training programme.

As the top education college in the QS World University Rankings for 10 consecutive years, Institute of Education (IOE) of University College London (UCL) has developed ECF programmes that have trained more than 10,000 outstanding ECTs in England, improving the quality of teaching and learning and the development of schools in the region.

Based on the ECF in the UK, the World Educator Learning Community (WELC) and IOE have jointly developed a teacher training system suitable for international schools in China and plan to train 500 teachers in the first phase to enhance their systematic competence in instructional design, organisation, reflection and improvement, as well as the sustainability of professional development.

Earlier this year, as one of the first schools to introduce the ECF, Lucton School Chongqing invited ECF facilitators, Jason and Danni, to launch the offline course. The role of facilitators is to build community, provide experiences, inspire multi-perspective thinking, and create space for learners to explore on their own by listening and guiding them.

Ms. Elaine Shi, Deputy Head - Academic of Lucton School Chongqing, serves as a s mentor for the ECF, and forms study groups with the ECTs to share successful teaching practices, organise professional learning activities, as well as to interact with and support each other. At the same time, UCL and WELC invited senior Chinese and foreign teachers and industry experts to provide ECF courses and mentor training for the study groups.

Through the systematic training of the ECF, ECTs will complete 9 learning modules and 6 learning objectives, and reach the 8 core professional skills standards of the UK teaching profession. During the process, they will master the latest teaching concepts and methods, and combine them with practice to make theoretical learning more practical and effective, and contribute more to the growth of Lucton students.
