After days of careful preparation, the first International Food Festival, IFF, in Lucton School Chongqing kicked off on September 29. In thecentre of the fountain plaza, dishes of nine countries were all presented.Members of each stands promoted their main dishes with all they could think of.The warm atmosphere and the scent of the dishes ignited the taste buds ofeveryone, and attracted them to come and have a taste.
The IFF has included dishes from a total of 9 countries. In thebeginning, the school canteen and parents prepared local specialties, and thenthe teachers and students of the school are grouped in accordance to theirHouses. They drew lots to decide which 2 countries they would represent andsell its special dishes. The results of 4 Houses were: Lion representing Indiaand Italy, Fox UK and Thailand, Star Mexico and Japan, and Knight US andTurkey.
The House system enables students in different year groups to forma close tie. Each member of the House shares weal and woe, participates incompetitions between Houses, helps and learns from each other, and thus, theirleadership, responsibility, honour and team spirit will be developed. From theplanning, purchase, decoration, production to the final promotion and sales,students played the significant roles and the all staff were supporting roles.
In the early morning, the students picked organic vegetables wegrow in the farm at Lucton, experienced the fun of hands-on labour, and startedthe warm-up of the IFF. Under the superior natural conditions of the forest ofTieshanping, the vegetables gros vigorously! The farm is divided into variousareas, planted with radish, pea sprout, cabbage... All kinds of vegetables aregrowing lively in a mass of green. Each House sorted and placed the pickedvegetables in an orderly manner, and very soon these vegetables would arrive atthe kitchen and become part of the dishes.
In the afternoon, the students came to the kitchen after class,turned into role of international chefs, and started a romantic journey withdelicious dishes. Most of the ingredients for making the dishes were purchased fromthe Metro supermarket the day before. Because the time for purchasing waslimited, the students clearly finalised the shopping list and divided up thework in advance, and thus, they were vigorous and quick during the shoppingtrip.
After detailed and cheerful preparations by the group, more thanten kinds of delicacies have been released, waiting to be tasted. Thai milktea, pasta, Daifuku, Turkish ice-cream cone, mini hamburger, mashed potatoes...At the same time, our canteen and the parents prepared some local dishes, suchas Xiaomian, spicy chicken, spring rolls, braised goose and etc. And everyoneenjoyed the food so much. Without leaving the campus, one could experiencedifferent exotic delicacies.
In addition to the production of food, the beauty of each standwas mainly completed by the students. All staff also provided strong assistanceon site as well. Themed decorations were arranged in various areas of thecampus to light up the warm atmosphere. Each stand was unique, with exoticTurkish ornaments, British-style flags and etc. Even some students paintedstraw hats with Mexican style themselves.
At sunset, the highlight of the IFF, the show officially began!Fox House took the lead in igniting the enthusiasm of the audience with apopular song, 最炫民族风, which woneveryone's applause; Lion House presented themselves by singing 我在东北玩泥巴, an adapted Indian song, made everyone laugh even harder; KnightHouse sand Something Just Like This together and brought all the audience tothe ocean of joy with international style; the theme song 残酷な天使のテ-ゼ of EVA played by Star House instantlybrought us back to those beautiful past days.
Every ending tags along a beginning. Every reunion always makes people look forward to it. For everyLuctonian, every companionship is precious, and every journey together is thepower that warms you and me to move forward.
