Ms.Illingworth is the Holistic Development Coordinator at Lucton School Chongqing. Every student at Lucton School Chongqing knows Ms. Illingworth very well as she also teaches Global Perspectives, Drama & Public speaking to all year groups and IGCSE ESL to Year 11. We are going to have a glimpse into the life of a Lucton School Chongqing Global Perspectives student studying online.
Global Perspectives is a very special class offered at Lucton School Chongqing. Students may never have had such an experience as this before! During the study of Global Perspectives, students are encouraged to open their minds and develop skills such as analysis, collaboration, communication, evaluation, reflection and critical thinking. All of which are bound to help them across all their subjects, in university and even in the workplace.
Let’s begin with Year 9. Since the recent restructure, students have been eager and ready to face new challenges head on. This term, Ms Illingworth has been laying the foundation upon which Year 9 students will expand their skills; focussing on research skills. During online classes, students have begun to question how trustworthy a source is. Being able to distinguish the defining factors of source trustworthiness is really important for students when they are researching, especially online, as they will be able to identify credible sources and produce more concrete ideas and work.
Both Year 10 and 11 have started a unit about plagiarism in their IGCSE Global Perspectives classes. Plagiarism is something that is incredibly serious as are the consequences, so it’s extremely important to educate students on the intricacies of plagiarism and how to avoid it in their academic work. This topic can be quite difficult to fully understand but it is a valuable skill. Academic honesty is something every educational institution takes seriously.
“Year 9 students carried out group discussions online, use the chat box to write important information and vocabulary and use the annotation tool to share their answers in a visual and interactive way.”
“The plagiarism PPT was an interactive way for students to consolidate their learning. Using the chat box to write their answer, Ms Illingworth kept a running total and awarded the first place winners with House Points!”
“Year 9 students have excellent discussion capabilities. Online classes are made interactive by asking students to take it in turns reading aloud and sharing their ideas.”
“Ms. Illingworth uses the Tencent Meeting chat box as a record of ideas, vocabulary etc. during the online class. After class she saves it and sends it to the students in DingTalk to ensure they have a record.”
