During the IELTS classes in Lucton School Chongqing, comprehensive training in listening, speaking, reading and writing skills is provided for students in both lower and senior year groups. The classes cover topics such as use and accumulation of vocabulary, practice of pronunciation and speaking rate, thinking and brainstorming, writing logic and hierarchy, intensive reading and extensive reading, etc. The lessons are based on IELTS exam questions and provide students with precise strategies for solving specific questions, as well as practice to reinforce the relevant skills.

In addition to dividing students into groups according to their different learning stages and objectives, the teacher also adjusts teaching materials and methods according to the feedback from each lesson, supplements practice materials to suit different levels of language proficiency and sets different practice objectives to achieve the target of tiered teaching. With the advantage of small class sizes, every student has enough opportunities for practicing speaking and work in small groups. Besides, students can accumulate language knowledge while improving related learning skills.

• Analysing listening materials in listening class.

• One member of the group was explaining while another student was making notes.

• Students expressing themselves in conversation boxes.

• After being given the framework of the writing sample, a group member led a discussion where everyone worked together to analyse the missing keywords.

• One student shared the results of the group discussion in the class group chat.

Our discussions during class are dominated by the students. You may have noticed that our teacher is more like an 'audience' and 'listener'. This is because, apart from focusing on developing students' examination skills and strategies, our more important goal is to teach students how to use the examination as a form of questions, to build up their thinking logic of analysing problems, finding solutions and solving problems through the process of preparing for the examination, and to gradually develop a systematic approach of solving problems by themselves.

In addition to helping students to prepare for exams, our programme also aims to prepare them with the thinking and skills they will need to be successful at university through a wide range of classroom activities and independent learning projects.
