Mr. Xu is the College Counselor at Lucton School Chongqing and he teaches University Guidance to both IGCSE and A-Level students. Today we will take a peek into his classroom to find out what kind of content is taught in this course and what the students will do.

In Lucton School Chongqing, University Guidance is delivered in two different ways. The first one is a regular weekly session during which essential information about preparing and applying for studying abroad is shared with students by Mr. Xu. For example, in the last term, students at IGCSE level have been given an introduction to mainstream studying-abroad destinations, which includes the history of the countries, general information, geography, advantages of studying abroad, application methods, application requirements and so on. In additional to written materials, information is also delivered to students through pictures, videos and vlogs in Mr. Xu’s classes, since he hopes to help students to improve the efficiency of absorbing information with a diverse range of ways and perspectives.

Secondly, a one-to-one counselling and guidance session is offered to Year 11 students separately. In order to help students to meet the requirements of their application goals, different contents based on each student’s situation and needs are provided by Mr. Xu during these sessions. For example, Mr. Xu guided students to search for websites of their target universities to find out information about majors which they will possibly apply for, including an overview of the courses, course structures, entry requirements, future career paths and more.

Taking the application for undergraduate programme in the US as an example, in addition to the types, course majors, early decision and other information of colleges and universities, our University Guidance course will also cover the geographical environment, culture, life, medical treatment and other essential information closely related to students in the future.

Ms. Lin is Y9′s Career Guidance teacher at Lucton School Chongqing and she teaches Career Guidance to students in Year 9. She hopes that students will gain a deeper understanding of themselves and the world through the diverse career guidance projects, and have a greater sense of direction and anticipation for their future careers. Today we will take a peek into the class to find out what the students have planned and see some of the work that they have produced.

Students in Ms. Lin′s classes have been working on a project-based learning process, and their first topic is "My World". The students successfully completed the first project with well-designed posters after they have been brainstorming, gathering information, researching and summarising in the classroom. They invited teachers, parents and classmates to vote for their posters. Daisy H won the final victory. Her creative and rich works attracted the most attention, won the most votes and won everyone's love!
