As a new term begins, there comes a new column, Creative Work Collection of Students, on the WeChat official account of Lucton School Chongqing. Submissions are welcome!

This new column will collect creative writing pieces and artwork of students in Lucton School Chongqing, and will share them with readers on online platforms such as WeChat official account and our official website etc., so that students′ original work can “walk” out of the campus and into online platforms, through which such creative and inspiring works will be supported and encouraged.

Since the initiation of a new column, Creative Work Collection of Students, students in Lucton School Chongqing have been actively participating. Today, we will share with you the latest work of students. Students in Ms. Illingworth′s Year 11 ESL class have been studying a unit about Social Issues recently. This week they read a text about healthy eating and specifically focussed on giving practical advice. At the end of the lesson, the task was to make a leaflet giving tips for healthy living.

Ms. Illingworth has previously taught the students how to use a very valuable website called ‘Canva’. Ms. Illingworth uses it regularly to create images for Weekly Assembly of Lucton School Chongqing and she has also used it to design the Lucton Raffle Tickets and Rewards stickers.

Using the website for school work is very handy, because the templates provided allow the students to not have to worry too much about their formatting, design and artistic elements of the work and focus on their English.
The leaflets produced by the students look so professional, detailed and eye-catching! One of the Lucton Staff Members couldn′t believe students had produced such work!

# Work by Cindy

Cindy′s leaflet is very green and fresh, the front and back pages make one image which ties the whole leaflet together. Cindy′s steps are very clear and easy to follow. She has used a healthy green coloured font to draw the reader′s attention and each image reflects the advice she has given on each page. Cindy′s leaflet has been broken down into 4 steps: 1: eat a healthy diet; 2: consume less salt and sugar; 3: reduce intake of harmful fats and 4: avoid harmful use of alcohol. I think we can all agree these are steps to live by!

# Work by George

George′s leaflet has a calming design and reminds me of a Traditional Chinese Medicine advertisement! He has even given himself the title of ‘Dr. George’! He has used large font to draw the reader′s attention and his images are simple but effective. He has split his leaflet into 3 categories: benefits of regular physical activity, 5 steps to mental wellbeing and 8 tips for healthy eating, which can help the reader follow his advice readily and easily!

# Work by Daniel

Daniel′s leaflet is striking with a picture of a mouth-watering salad on the front page. He has included many eye-catching images to keep the reader wanting to know more. The inside has an overview of what it means to live a healthy life and the back page has seven tips for living healthily. Daniel′s tips are: 1: eat 3 good meals, 2: sleep 8 hours a night, 3: exercise for 30 minutes every day, 4: laugh every day for your mental and physical health, 5: have a bowel movement every day, 6: have a harmonious family and 7: do not smoke or drink and walk every day. Daniel′s advice has really considered every aspect of life!

# Work by Sylva

Sylva has really thought deeply about the colour scheme of her leaflet, using different shades of green in her design and image choices; a colour that definitely symbolises health. Her leaflet has many subheadings which allows the reader to easily skim through and find the information. She has divided her leaflet into Healthy diet, good rest, and exercise, giving tips for each. A few examples being, eat fresh and organic food, get enough rest and sleep, walking and swimming. Sylva has produced a great leaflet with invaluable advice we should all follow!

Through the ESL classes, students in Lucton School Chongqing not only developed a healthy lifestyle, but also enhanced their ability to create and execute during project-based learning. We look forward to sharing more of it with you in the future.
